"Could not set icon" error message on startup program
3rd party pgm receives "Could not set icon" error message when executed at startup. The tray icon along with its associated options does not appear in the notification tray. I have this "agent" installed on 3 PC's - 2 XP & 1 Vista. The problem is only on my desktop PC running XP Home SP3. I've searched the web and various forums but have not found a solution but have seen other individuals with the same problem. One offered solution was increasing (or deleting) the IRPStackSize parameter in the registry. I tried increasing the parameter but it did not correct the problem. Note that a manual start of the pgm after startup responds with a "can only have one instance of program running" error message. Ending the pgm via task manager and restarting manually is successful. Also, disabling pgm in the startup list and then manually executing after startup is successful.Any ideas? Both XP machines have SP3 and have all Windows updates installed.thanks, rc

Hi Samhrutha, The problem seems to be more complex; see this link for more info -->http://winhlp.com/node/16. It's a lot of reading but very informative. I think the information at the above link answers my question; but, why hasn't Microsoft addressed the problem and made the necessary changes to shell32.dll ?thanks, rcwaszak

Try uninstalling and reinstalling the program, check the behavior of the program at startup.
